What is canine massage?
It is the gentle manipulation of your dog’s physical and energetic body that increases the circulation of blood, lymph and energy flow. Enhancing the mind-body connection harnesses and directs your dog’s powers for self-healing.

Why learn to massage your own dog?
Because…you love your dog! You regularly touch and stroke your dog so you already know how much they enjoy it. Why not set time aside to make every stroke health enhancing through intentional direction and pressure? You can develop skills to understand the specific needs of your dog and establish knowledge of a healthy baseline. By learning effective massage you can give your dog the regular benefits that can lead to a longer, healthier life (for both of you).

What will I learn?
You will develop specific skills to understand the special needs of your dog. You will learn how to support balance and self-healing through focused intention, knowledgeable compassionate touch, positional release, acupressure, energy balancing and release of spasms in the fascia. The techniques are gentle and effective. I do not teach, nor will your pet receive, deep tissue work, extreme joint movement, diagnosis or treatment for specific disorders, prescribed medications or dietary recommendations.

Why is canine massage so important?
For humans, canine massage is designed to teach the skills to enhance the bond between human and canine, to give back to their animals, and to empower them to responsibly and effectively care for their dogs.

For the dog, massage reduces stress, aids in healing and provides ongoing health care for your dog. By giving your dog the loving gift of massage, you are rewarding him/her for a lifetime of companionship, loyalty and friendship.

Massage is much more than petting or play. I am often asked whether day-to-day petting counts as massage. The answer is "no". Let me explain why. While petting is always a wonderful exchange, massage is a deliberate and focused technique of touching your dog. Each stroke is controlled in pressure, direction and intention. Your hands become finely tuned tools of assessment and sensing devices. They are also the conduits through which healing and love flow.

Sensory perception is very important to the visually or hearing impaired, so by engaging their dogs in deliberate massage strokes, it allows them to communicate with their dogs on many levels. In the course of learning the craft of massaging their own dogs, the dog’s sensory perception will also increase dramatically with their human companion. This is the language of “conscious touch”, where human and dog will form a true bond, for life.
